A 3D printed MLIP helps IV Drip stay in place and prevent subcut leakage

Giving Intravenous drips to animals is a cumbersome process. They move a lot and that causes the needle to dislodge and fall out or sometimes just to partially dislodge which causes the IV fluid to leak into the subcutaneous space of the skin and it causes swelling and discomfort for the animal and headache for the care giver.

Home 3D printing has matured enough today that it allows innovators to be able to bring their designs from imagination to manifestation in mere hours. This provides a unique environment where simple solutions to small problems which were just out of grasp due to manufacturing limits can now be solved.

The MLIP project is one such solution to the aforementioned problem. The IV drips can now be clipped onto the skin of the animal which would prevent them from falling out easily and prevent subcut leakage and prevent further complications. MLIP has been designed by Vipul Rajan, an engineer who graduated from NIT Rourkela and is residing in Himachal Pradesh, India.
