LARGE INTESTINAL COCCIDIOSIS WITHOUT INVOLVEMENT OF CAECA- A CASE REPORT

- Two birds aging 12 wks were presented to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary college, Bidar, Karnataka for post-mortem examination from LPM department which showed emaciated body condition. On opening the intestines were distended. Haemorrhages on the serosa of intestines which were distended extensively
- (Fig.1) showed severe catarrhal to haemorrhagic enteritis
- (Fig.2). Kidneys were pale and edematous. Heart was congested and showed empty chambers
- (Fig.3). Lungs showed mild congestion. Intestinal scrappings revealed coccidia oocysts, merozoites and trophozoites
- (Fig.4). The cause of death was due to large intestinal coccidiosis excluding caecum.
