Dr. Hari Mohan Saxena, a retired Professor of Immunology from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has been bestowed with the prestigious International Paul Ehrlich Distinguished Educationist and Inventive Researcher Award 2022 in recognition of his lifetime contributions in teaching and research in Immunology. The award was conferred on him on the eve of World Intellectual Property Day in New Delhi recently by the International Multidisciplinary Research Foundation. The citation says that the IMRF International Publications conferred this honour in recognition of his consistent superior performance and invaluable contributions in Immunology.

Dr. Saxena studied at the University of Cambridge and the University of Nottingham Medical School and undertook research at the MRC Centre, Cambridge and Cancer Research Campaign Laboratories, Nottingham, UK, respectively. He served as Professor cum Head of Veterinary Microbiology Department at GADVASU and Director (Resident Instructions) cum Dean, Postgraduate Studies at Bihar Animal Sciences University, Patna. He also undertook a diplomatic assignment and served as Counsellor (S&T) in the Embassy of India at Moscow, Russia with concurrent accreditation to Ukraine and Belarus also. Presently he is the Dean at Shekhawati Veterinary College, Sikar.

Dr. Saxena obtained patents in USA, Europe, China, South Africa and India for his innovation in immunodiagnosis of infectious diseases. He pioneered the bacteriophage based immunotherapy of Brucellosis in cattle and developed a bacteriophage based marker vaccine and DIVA assay for bovine Hemorrhagic Septicemia. Dr. Saxena delivered a keynote address at an international conference and world congress in Zurich, Switzerland and has been invited to deliver a plenary speech at an international conference being organized at Wuhan, China.

The coveted award is named after the German Physician Paul Ehrlich who discovered the first antimicrobial therapy against Syphilis, developed hematological staining and antiserum for Diphtheria and won the Nobel Prize for his various contributions in Immunology.
