IMPORTANCE OF EGG IN HEALTH AND GDP

Introduction:
According to the 2015-2016 figures, India’s poultry industry is worth roughly Rs. 80000 Cr. where the organised sector contributes 80% and the unorganised sector 20% of the total. India is the third largest producer of eggs in the world, behind China and the United States, who hold the top two spots. India produced 88 billion eggs in 2016-17 compared to 83 billion in 2015-16, an increase of 6%. The per capita availability has also grown over the past few years and is now at 67. The broiler sector holds about 38% of the market, the layer industry 30%, and backyard poultry the remaining share. Since agriculture is the primary source of revenue in India and the sustainability of income is decreasing owing to changing rainfall patterns, backyard poultry farming is favoured by marginal farmers as a secondary source of income.
Population and Production:
India is third in the world for egg production, according to FAOSTAT. When the entire number of layer birds is taken into account, desi fowl provides 28% and 72% from the improved varieties of fowl. Because eggs provide 12% of the Daily Value for protein and a variety of other nutrients, including vitamins, essential amino acids, and minerals like vitamin A, B6, B12, folate, iron, phosphorus, selenium, choline, and zinc, along with other nutrients that are essential for growth and good health, eggs are a wholesome, nutritious food with a high nutrient density. One of the key nutritional factors that influences children’s growth and development is protein. Two recently identified nutrients, lutein and zeaxanthin, have classified eggs as “functional foods.” A functional food is one that offers additional health advantages to its fundamental nutrient composition. A primary cause of blindness in persons over 65, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can be considerably reduced by ingesting lutein and zeaxanthin, according to recent studies. Additionally, cataracts are less likely to develop.
What is the need for increasing the Egg production?
One of the biggest issues we have right now is how to feed an anticipated 9 billion people by the year 2050, 40% more people than there are on the earth right now. Making it even more difficult is the challenge of doing so without harming the environment. The issue is how to meet the rising worldwide demand from primarily urban people with rising purchasing power while also increasing the supply of food, particularly food of animal origin. One of the biggest issues we have right now is how to feed an anticipated 9 billion people by the year 2050, 40% more people than there are on the earth right now. Making it even more difficult is the challenge of doing so without harming the environment. The issue is how to meet the rising worldwide demand from primarily urban people with rising purchasing power while also increasing the supply of food, particularly food of animal origin. The primary goal of raising livestock and poultry is to produce safe and wholesome animal protein for the world’s expanding population. On the other hand, there are numerous significant problems that threaten its viability.
How to earn more from the business?
Exporting eggs and egg products will increase revenue and aid in expanding the company. Table eggs, egg powder, hatching eggs, SPF eggs, and live birds are the main exports. Approximately Rs. 532 crores were spent on poultry product exports in 2016–17. The competitive cost of manufacturing, accessibility to markets abroad, and rapid recovery from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza are the key drivers of export success (HPAI). While there have been some attempts to enhance poultry exports from India, the trade is still quite minor when compared to the overall commerce. Table eggs, hatching eggs, frozen eggs, egg powder, and to a lesser extent live poultry are currently the principal markets are Middle East and Asian countries. Also delivered to Japan and the EU is egg powder. We now export to a large number of African nations. We have the necessary infrastructure, primary packing supplies, and a complete cold chain of logistics to manage egg exports and provide all of our customers with premium fresh eggs.
Conclusion: The poultry sector is growing day by day and achieving new heights and also helping with the growth of GDP. The increasing demand of food by the alarmingly increasing population should be fulfilled and for that the eggs are the best alternative which provide good nutrition. In response to increasing population the per capita consumption of eggs is also increasing. For achieving new heights in global markets of eggs the new marketing strategies should be considered which includes export of value added products consisting of, egg powder, frozen eggs etc.
