Honourable, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, visited the ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati. He emphasized on the importance of pig breeding for the production of quality germplasm and subsequent dissemination to the field for the farmers’ and entrepreneurs’ benefits. The Minister stated about the urgent need for importing the exotic germplasm to the Institute to enhance the pigs’ productive and reproductive performances. Honourable minister opined for the nutrition’s importance in pig farming. He urged for taking up the research projects in order to increase the feed efficiency and use of alternate feed resources. The Minister accentuated on the fact that such initiative will not only reduce the feed cost, but also make piggery as a profitable and sustainable venture to the farming community.(Source: ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati)
