Muscle haemorrhage in Broilers.

1. Highly selected strains of Broiler Chickens have developed an “over-size” muscle mass by about 6-7 weeks.

2. In other respects their anatomy is still juvenile and blood supply is inadequate in some susceptible tissues which tear easily with sudden exertion.

3. During the period from catching through to slaughter there is strenuous muscular activity and stress which result in the majority of carcass haemorrhages found.

Prevention:

4. Shading and ventilation of the sheds must be adequate.

5. Routine measurements of the microclimate at bird level should be taken to assess the degree of heat stress.

6. There should be as good a supply of water – preferably piped underground.

7. Particular attention should be given to scientifically balanced electrolytes at 2 gms for litre of water.

8. Feed which contains mycotoxins from moulds can predispose a bird to bruising and haemorrhage even when present at very low levels even at concentrations which do not inhibit growth in the bird.

9. Please use Toxifree of Norel NBPL Ltd , Mycotoxin Binder
at 1 to 2 kgs for ton of feed, which is an activated dipolar Phyllosillicate and it absorbs aflatoxin, ochratoxin and T-2
upto 5000ppb level.

10. Birds should be handled properly while sending for slaughter.
