APPRAISAL OF DECISIONS TAKEN BY VCI

On 28 September 2021, the Cabinet Minister Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of India, Hon’ble Shri Purushottam Rupala and Ministers of State Dr. Sanjeev Balyan and Shri L. Murugan along with the Secretary of the Ministry Shri Atul Chaturvedi (Senior IAS) & Joint Secretary Shri Abhimanyu Basu ( IAS) the Members of the Veterinary Council of India made an introductory meeting at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi In which the President of Veterinary Council of India Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma informed about the decisions taken by the Veterinary Council of India in the past days such as the availability of quality veterinary education in all the veterinary colleges of the country, ensuring it.
◾Formation of committee for setting criteria/ minimum standard for wildlife practice in veterinary profession first time.
◾Formation of a committee to finalize soon the draft of minimum standard of veterinary practice regulations by inviting suggestions from all the veterinarians of the country including veterinary experts, subject experts.

◾Development of scheme of reciprocity in respect of foreign education under the provision of the section 16 of the IVC Act 1984 i.e. Countries by which degree in veterinary science from institutions of India will be recognised, Only those countries’ Veterinary Science degree will be recognised by the VCI, such as important decision made.
◾VCI members thanked all the Ministers for providing 2 acres of land for the building of the Veterinary Council of India with the help of the Government of India and soon the foundation stone of the building of VCI and the assurance of cooperation by the ministry for the construction of the building was taken, so that in the coming time the VCI office will be able to operate in its own building.
◾VCI felt the need for new researches and scientists in the veterinary field in the country, for which the Indian Council of Veterinary Reaserch (ICVR) was proposed to be established, so that along with effective work on important missions like One Health, animal owners would be provided with the latest researches, can also get benefit.
◾ On the occasion of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” being organized by the Government of India in the 75th year of independence, VCI has also established new dimensions in veterinary science by working in the fields of social, education, research the Veterinarians and Veterinary institutions, Hospitals/ Veterinary colleges. It has been decided to identify and honour them, In which their name will also be displayed on the website of VCI.
◾The increase in the rates of Internship Allowance, which is impractical in various states of Veterinary Science graduate students, was also discussed and demanded to do the same as medical students.
◾All India Institute of Veterinary Sciences (AIIVS) “Model Veterinary Institute” was proposed on the lines of AIIMS famous for human medicine in the country, on which Hon’ble Ministers showed positive attitude and assured to prepare its action plan soon.
Various action plans were made by the team of Veterinary Council of India in leadership of President and Vice- President, VCI during the period of Covid-19, which are constantly trying to implement and are committed to complete the above works in a planned manner in the coming time.
