The poultry industry has experienced a significant transformation in its daily operations due to the advancements in artificial intelligence and machine technologies. These developments aim to minimize the need for manual labor, enable round-the-clock monitoring and simplify remote reporting. The GohBot is equipped with imaging sensors and machine learning capabilities, allowing it to efficiently navigate poultry house floors, collect floor eggs and monitor crucial environmental factors like temperature, gases and light levels. On the other hand, Chicken Boy is an innovative autonomous robot suspended from the ceiling. It utilizes artificial intelligence and sensor technology to assess the surrounding environment, detect equipment malfunctions, monitor poultry health and perform tasks such as removing deceased birds and analyzing moisture levels in the litter. These advancements in artificial intelligence have undoubtedly revolutionized the poultry industry, enhancing efficiency and productivity.

Health monitoring and disease prevention: AI supervision helps in monitoring poultry health by detecting abnormal behaviors and signs of illness. Early detection of symptoms can aid in preventing disease outbreaks proactively. The use of AI has the capability to transform the monitoring of diseases in poultry farming by detecting diseases at an early stage. Through the analysis of data, AI can pinpoint diseases before they fully develop, giving farmers the opportunity to act quickly to prevent the spread of illnesses among their flock. It is essential for AI to work alongside human knowledge in order to effectively and accurately diagnose diseases. Furthermore, artificial vision can be employed to compare postmortem findings with a database, assisting in the identification of diseases in partnership with veterinarians.

Embryo identification: ML and AI systems assist in identifying fertile eggs for incubation, optimizing energy resources. Farm owners can track embryo development accurately using machine learning models. Viscon groups have integrated VINOVO Live Embryo Detection technology into their hatchers, which utilizes a patented heartbeat sensor to identify viable embryos in eggs. The presence of non-viable eggs in the hatcher can pose a biological risk and lead to unnecessary use of space. This process can only be automated through the use of AI, as it is difficult for humans to detect. By utilizing this technology, a high level of cleanliness and accuracy is maintained during egg handling, transfer, and inovo vaccination. Depending on the specific application, the product line can process up to 70,000 eggs per hour.

Post harvest: The application of artificial intelligence goes beyond the agricultural sector, extending to meat processing plants and egg packaging industries. AI has the potential to address critical issues in processing plants such as labor-intensive and repetitive tasks, lack of real-time processing data, and the limited speed of human interventions. By utilizing artificial vision technology, real-time yield monitoring and tracking of high-value chicken parts can be achieved, along with the integration of smart automation to optimize operational efficiencies. The use of AI in processing plants enables faster processing speeds and accurate packaging of premium products, resulting in increased profits and reduced post-harvest contamination.

Efficient flock supervision: AI and ML technologies enhance poultry flock management for increased productivity. From sex determination in embryos to breeding predictions and quality control, every aspect of flock management is efficiently handled by AI.

AI-driven visual analysis: Computer vision in poultry management, powered by AI, offers insights for better flock management and productivity. By utilizing visual data and machine learning, farmers can ensure improved welfare and health outcomes for their poultry.

Data-driven farm management: AI technology enables poultry farmers to optimize energy usage and ensure sustainable practices by analyzing real-time data. Through precise control of temperature, light, and humidity, farm activities can be efficiently managed to promote flock health. However, the full potential of big data lies in utilizing cloud storage to store vast amounts of information, which can then be utilized by machines and robotics to control important parameters like humidity, temperature, and light. Machine learning is emerging as a powerful tool that will transform the future of farm management practices. With machine learning, robotics can accurately monitor various essential parameters for efficient farm management. Artificial intelligence (AI) not only collects data but also processes it using data analytics to draw insights from stored data in the cloud. By using AI for data analysis, real-time decision-making becomes possible, significantly enhancing farm efficiency.

Several universities are currently exploring control systems for poultry farming that incorporate technologies like Zigbee and Raspberry Pi integrated with wireless sensors and GPRS. These technologies are expected to be implemented on a larger scale in the poultry industry in the near future.

With the increasing global demand for protein, including in regions like India, these AI-driven technologies are expected to have a significant impact on delivering high-quality chicken and eggs at a lower cost. While the poultry industry faces challenges such as high raw material expenses and the potential threat of diseases like Avian Influenza, AI’s positive influence on the sector has the potential to improve operational efficiency, ultimately making chicken and eggs more affordable for a larger population.
