Brooke India Celebrates 25 Years of Impact and Service

Brooke India, a leading NGO dedicated to improving the welfare of working horses, donkeys, and mules, proudly marked its 25th foundation day in India at Delhi. The milestone event was a testament to Brooke India’s enduring commitment and impactful journey over the past quarter-century.
The event was graced by distinguished officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, including Dr. Vijay Kumar Teotia, Joint Commissioner (LH). Other eminent guests included Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Chairperson of People for Animals, amongst other distinguished guests. Their presence underscored the significance of Brooke India’s achievements and the ongoing importance of animal welfare initiatives.
Brooke India is a part of the international animal welfare organization, Brooke UK, which is dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys, and mules worldwide. Established in 1999, Brooke India is registered with the Animal Welfare Board of India, it focuses on providing veterinary care, improving welfare standards, and supporting marginalised communities that rely on working animals for their livelihoods. The organisation has been given invaluable leadership from its inception by its Chairperson Emeritus, Rear Admiral Vijay Kumar Malhotra, AVSM, VSM (Retd). Presently the organization is run under the leadership of Chairperson, Lt. Gen. Sanjiv Chopra AVSM, VSM (Retd.) and is headed by CEO, Brig. J.S. Dharamadheeran (Retd.).
The event began with Gen. Sanjiv Chopra welcoming the distinguished gathering. This was followed by an impactful audio-visual presentation of Brooke’s 25-year journey in India that showcased Brooke India’s growth and the impact of its tireless efforts in improving working equine welfare and the significant milestones achieved in improving the lot of the underprivileged and marginalized working equine owning community. A very interesting session was organised where the female community members talked about the impact of Brooke India’s intervention on their lives. Through their interaction they shared their experiences, providing poignant testimonials of how the organization’s work has positively impacted their lives and the well-being of their equines.
The event concluded with a heartfelt note of gratitude from Brooke India’s CEO, Brig. J.S. Dharamadheeran (Retd.) to all those who to all Brooke India’s supporters, partners, and stakeholders in traversing this journey. The CEO gratefully acknowledged the collective efforts of the Brooke India teams who had made the successes achieved possible
