                                          Thulasimathi Murugesan

Thulasimathi Murugesan, an undergraduate student at Tanjavur University, has made remarkable strides in her life and career. Born with a deformity in her left hand, Thulasimathi faced numerous challenges but never let them deter her from pursuing her dreams. Her journey is one of relentless perseverance and unwavering determination.

Thulasimathi’s passion for sports was ignited at a young age, thanks to the encouragement of her father, D. Murugesan, a daily wage worker and sports enthusiast. Despite financial hardships, her father ensured that she had the opportunity to explore various sports. Thulasimathi eventually chose badminton and went on to become a national champion for four consecutive years during her school days.

In 2023, Thulasimathi transitioned to para badminton and represented India in 15 international tournaments, winning an impressive 16 gold, 11 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Her crowning achievement came at the Paris Paralympics 2024, where she won a silver medal. This outstanding performance earned her the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2025.

Thulasimathi’s story is not just about her sporting achievements but also about overcoming societal scorn and personal challenges.
