DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF LIVESTOCK DISEASES BASED ON NERVINE SYMPTOMS

 

1.RABIES

 

(a) Frequent urination
(b)dog bite history
(c) inspiratory whistling sound expiratory hoarse grunt
(d)saliva froath showers in expiration
(e)non responsive to commands
(f) loss of identifying near ones(calf in above said case) (g)aggressive response to near by moving individuals
(h) self mutilating injury horn head etc
(i) highly viscous froathy saliva ,viscosity
is akin to gum and it descends few inches 6” to 10” from lower muzzle

 

2.TRYPANOSOMA /SURRA/TIBARSA symptoms
(a )is only in acute) ,+(e)non responsive in aute but responsive in chronic +(w) head low pressing on hard object in acute

Additional symptoms are
(j)circling movements, acute
(k)temprature high grade in per acute, high in acute slightly above normal or low in chronic
(l)oedema in limbs in chronic
(m) flaccidity in gait and walk in acute form

 

3.OESTROUS
(a)+(c)

Additional Symptoms are

only in adult females

4.MAGNESIUM TETANY/ GRASS STAGGERS/HYPOMAGNESIUMAEMIA/WHOLE MILK TETANY/dhankiya(local language)
+(a)

Additional symptoms are

4.Hypomagnesiumaea symptoms

*involuntary twitching of muscles,

Head hold up high less than 90°in adult cows and (o)attaining more than 90° to 180° in buff. and catt.calves
(p)meduim hyper aesthetic aimless running with tail switch high and diarrhoea in adults while no running,tail down, constipation in calves.(q)Buffalows lift both fore limbs as galloping falls back on vertebral column in acute deficiency
(r)Adult on lush green or potash treated pasture monsoon period while after 7 days of calf age on whole milk esp.in buff.calf as it contain ca++ more than cows milk.

5.THIAMINE DEFICIENCY/POLIO ENCEPHALO MALACIA
Esp.in goats

Additional symptoms are

(s)Head before attaining 90° turns aside with a moaning sound
(t) adult head lifting at 45°

 

6.TETANUS

Especially after shearing sheep and open method castration of male goats
(a)+(p) hyper aesthetic high grade +(k) high temprature

Additional symptoms are

(u) 3rd eye lid prolapse
(v)body pie like position head +90° fore limbs fore hind limbs hind tail upside while lateral shivering in short tailed sheep and goat
Horse wodden in standing and less than90° head in lateral recumbancy

 

7.KETOSIS/HIDE BOUND

(a)+ just after parturation,high Milkers,mastitis

Additional symptoms are

(w) head low pressing hard objects like wall
(x) eating of utensils, sand,empty mouth champing of jaws , protruding tongue in and out

Seen too in KETOSIS

 

8.ANOREBIC INFECTION of uterus post parturant closure of cervix,

(n)+ (q)
loss of lochia

Additional symptoms are

black or dark brown uterine discharge after manupulation of uterus and cervix

 

9.FEEDING COLOSTRUM TO ADULT COW AND BUFFALO

+(w)
Additional symptoms are

(z)Blindness

 

10.LEPTOSPIROSIS

 

(j )+(k)

(a1).Hemiplegia one upper eye lid half closed with same side ear dropping
(b1) Haemogalactia
(c1)feeding Rats urine soiled concentrate or roughage

 

11.BOTULISM

 

(d1)tongue protrudes out
(e1) constipation
(f1) eyes half open
(g1)sternal or lateral recumbancy
(h1) drooling of less viscous saliva
(i1) severe depression
(j1) flaccid tail as if paralytic
(k1) history of bone pica or feeding soiled wrapped or air tight 2days left concentrate

 

12,ORGANOPHOSPHORUS COMPOUND POISNING

(l1) Drooling of saliva in liters
(m1)eyes repeatedly closes and opens in addition with supporting muscles at that time the animal falls back like in ( n) and (q) symptom of tetany this is seizure (tonic and clonic)

(n1)after falling in lateral recumbancy seizures follow repeatedly
(o1)history of exposure to ectoparasitocidal ie cyper,flu,delta,per methrin
(p1)Nystagmus

 

13.MENINGITIS

( o)& p1
(q1)Sand pica (r1)high grade fever with chills initially non responsive to NSAIDs
