Lumpy skin disease kills 2,100 cows in Rajasthan after 1,400 in Gujarat

90% of cows have this disease. Buffaloes are also falling prey to it. Instructions have been given to provide medicines in all the districts. 1 lakh rupees have already been given to each district in the emergency fund. Funds are now being given in different districts according to the demand. 5 lakh more has been given in Jaisalmer. Teams have been deployed in all the affected districts.

Jaipur: The death toll of cows in Rajasthan has risen to 2,100 due to the dreaded viral disease ‘Lumpi’, which came to India via PakistanDainik Bhaskar reported.

This infectious disease is wreaking havoc in 10 districts including Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer. More than 40 thousand cows have been affected by it. 90% of the cows are dying due to this disease. This disease is also spreading in bulls, bulls and buffaloes.

It is being treated on the basis of symptoms only. The Government of India has issued an advisory advising livestock owners to get the ‘Goat Pox’ vaccine, for their bovines, which protects them from the deadly pox.

A team of scientists and animal doctors from the centre reached Rajasthan on Monday. The situation has been taken stock of by visiting Jodhpur and Nagaur.

Dr. NM Singh, Additional Director, Health, Government of Rajasthan told Dainik Bhaskar that the team will also go to Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Jalore, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Pali, and Sirohi. An alert has been issued in Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur, Rajsamand and the districts adjoining the Gujarat border.

The state health department is keeping an eye on the development in these areas.

Along with Rajasthan, ‘Lumpy‘ disease is spreading rapidly in cows and buffaloes in Gujarat as well. There is information about the spread of the disease in more than 14 districts of Gujarat.

The central team has also been sent to Gujarat. Medical experts of Rajasthan suspect that it has re-entered the country via Pakistan’s Punjab, Sindh and Bahawalnagar. There is no effective treatment for this disease either which is proving to be a matter of greatest concern.
