Mechanical obstruction of intestine could be congenital or acquired. As a calf was 3 months old, the possibility of congenital obstruction can safely be ruled out (Gant A Sastry). A carcass of three months old ND calf was presented to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary college, Bidar, Karnataka with a history of poor appetite, bloated body condition along with paleness of all visible mucous membranes. Bloated body condition (Fig:1) and all the visual mucous membranes were pale . On opening abdominal cavity, there was congestion of mesentery and ballooning of duodenum. The rumen was fully impacted with food material which was watery in nature (Fig:2). Abomasal mucosa showed severe congestion (Fig:3). Liver was slightly enlarged with gall bladder distended (Fig:4). Spleen was pale and there was haemorrhagic enteritis also. Hard dried faecal matter was stucked in the upper portion of small intestine especially duodenum (Fig:5). Both the kidneys were soft and congested (Fig:6). Heart was also congested and lumen showed clotted mass of blood. Tracheal mucosa was slightly congested and both the lungs were congested (Fig:7). In this case, macroscopically the place where obstruction has occurred is found to be distended and contents were hard that pierce the mucosa causing stenosis. These findings were simulated to those of Ganti A Sastry. Finally, the death of the animal was due to mechanical intestinal obstruction leading to toxemia.
