- Pre-exposr prophylxs..:
ARV on 0,7 & 21 or 28th day.
(A)For Previously not vaccinated..RIG & 1st dose ARV on day 0 follwd by ARV on 3,7,14 & 21 days.
(B)For those previously vaccinated..2 doses on 0 & 3rd without RIG…
NB-But some countries follow the PEP regimen as follows..
(a)If re-exposed within 1 month of last dose of PEP..no further ARV. If re-exposed between 1month-1yr after last dose of PEP..only 1 dose of ARV on day 0. If re-exposed bet 1yr-5yrs of the last dose of PEP.. 2 doses on 0 & 3rd days. If re-exposed after 5yrs..following the full PEP regimen.
*VETs come under the group “frequent chances of getting exposed to Rabies” ..they must have received prophylactic vaccination & they should do AB titre evaluation once in 2 yrs..If the AB titre falls below 0.5 IU/ml,they must receive a booster dose.
- RIG.. 2 kinds are available..Human RIG(20 IU/kg) & Horse RIG (40 IU/kg)..which can be delayed upto a Max of 7 days after expsr & must be infiltrated in & around the bite site & the remainings shld be injected at the site away from d site of ARV.
- Site for ARV … Deltoid in adults & antero-lateral thigh in children. It must not be given over gluteal region.
