Savitribai Phule Excellence Award 2024 instituted by Pashudhan Praharee in association with Goel Vet Pharma, Livestock Institute of Training & Development (LITD),www.cevsle.org & www.ibevm.com is a recognition for women Veterinarians & Women Professionals in Agriculture & Allied Fields across the country who has proven themselves in their domain areas through diligent efforts and invincible potential. Savitribai Phule Excellence Award 2024 are bestowed on the exceptional talents and significant contributions of Lady Vets / Lady Professionals from Agriculture & Allied fields who are giving their valuable time and effort in Agro- Veterinary Professional Community of India .
Award Concept
To encourage and promote excellence in Lady Veterinarians & Lady Agri -Allied Professionals in India with an aim to promote the concept of quality Agro- Veterinary & Animal Husbandry services through highest standards. The selected Lady Agro-Vets are models of excellence that serve as an inspiration for others to improve Agro-Veterinary Services through innovation and creative action.
SAVITRIBAI PHULE: THE LADY WHO CHANGED THE FACE OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS IN INDIA
“Where Actions Prove Knowledge”
Education was considered to be a privileged only meant for the higher castes, but Savitribai emphasised on secular education. She believed that the need for proper education was as basic as that of the requirement of food, water and shelter. She preached the importance of getting an education for both boys and girls.
Savitribai Phule’s name is counted among the first feminists of India. She was the first-ever female teacher in the country and was the headmistress as well. Her husband Jyotiba Phule was an education reformist as well. On the 3rd of January, 2022, the country celebrates the first female teacher of India, Savitribai Phule. She was an activist who worked for the education of females in India and exhorted them to get an education to break free from the shackles of socially constructed discriminatory practices.
Early Life: Education, Marriage, Family
Savitribai was born on January 3rd, 1831 in Naigaon village in Maharashtra. At that time being born in a socially backward Mali community meant no education for females. She was illiterate when she married Jyotiba Phule at the age of 9. Jyotiba was 13 at that time and studied in class 3rd.
Savitribai found her route to education due to her forward-looking husband Jyotiba Phule who believed strongly in female education to remove social inequalities.
He began teaching his wife at home against the family diktat.
An incident that changed Savitribai Phule’s life:
When Savitribai was young she was pulling the pages of an English language book, when her father caught her red-handed. He snatched the book from her hands and threw it far away asking her to never touch one again. It was considered only the right of upper-caste men in those days to study. Savitribai vouched that day to learn to read and write no matter what happens.
Savitribai Phule Biography: Career
She was enrolled by Jyotiba Phule in a teacher’s training program at a training institute in Pune. She actually enrolled herself in 2 teachers’ training programs – an American missionary, Cynthia Farrar, in Ahmednagar and at a normal school in Pune. Savitri then went on to become the first woman headmistress of any school in India and the first-ever woman teacher in the country. Her birthday is also observed as Balika Din in Maharashtra.
She began teaching at a girl’s school in Marathwada in Pune alongside Sagunbai who was one of the revolutionary feminists at that time.
By 1851, Savitribai Phule and Jotiba were running three different schools in Pune only for girls. The three schools combined had more than 150 girl students enrolled.
Savitribai Phule Biography: Resistance In Her Job
Savitribai Phule used to carry an extra saree to her school as she was peddled with stones and dirt by the conservative upper caste locals while she used to commute to her schools for teaching.
Phule’s faced such troubles from the upper Brahmin class in their locality as they belonged to suppressed Mali caste and they were educated despite that fact.
Ultimately they had to leave their father’s house in 1849 after being blamed to commit the sin of studying against Manusmriti and its Brahmanical texts.
Together with her husband, she taught children from different castes and opened a total of 18 schools. They also opened a care center called Balhatya Pratibandhak Griha for rape victims and pregnancy victims.
Savitribai Phule Biography: Death
Jyotiba and Savitribai had no children of their own. They had an adopted son Yashwant who opened a clinic to work for Bubonic plague victims. Savitribai Phule died due to the same plague that affected her, She breathed her last on March 10, 1897.

Any Lady Veterinarian/Agri-Allied Professionals of India who has obtained a minimum of BVSc.&AH Degree from a VCI Recognized Veterinary College or Agri-Allied Professional degree from a recognised Agri University.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
1.Nominees or Participants in All India Article Writing Competition must submit a Nomination/ Articles via mail mentioning her brief profile & Achievement.
2.The selection committee reserves the right to move a nominee to a category more suited to their strengths and skillsets without notification.
3.This is an awards competition. Our Selection Committee Members reserves the right to take final decision for sellection
4.No. of winners will be decided by admin on the basis of nomination.
5.Winners will be awarded with an Award Certificate and a Momentos
6.There is no entry/Nomination fee
The following procedure be followed for sending the entries:
- Article can be sent through e-mail atpashudhanpraharee@gmail.com
- Article must be typed in MS Word with Times New Roman fonts in English and Unicode Mangal fonts in Hindi. Photos related to the article, if any, be sent in jpg image.
- Each entry must be either an article written in English or Hindi by the competitor.
- Competitors may submit maximum of 05 (five) articles.The word limit of the article should be between 2500-6000 words.
- In case of submission of translated version of copyrighted article in English or Hindi before submitting the article, the author should have obtained permission from the original author for the use of their work for the Competition. Scanned copy/copies of the permission/s should be sent along with the entry/entries by e-mail.
- Each article and photographs must be the unaided work of the author or translator and it must not have been previously published or broadcast.
- In case of any copyrighted photograph, before submitting the photograph, the author should have obtained permission from the original author for the use of their work for the Competition. Scanned copy/copies of the permission/s should be sent along with the entry/entries by e-mail.
- The submitted article/essay should be plagiarism free.If it has been found that the competitor has copied in full or part an article of another author and submitted as an entry to the Pashudhan praharee, the competitor will be responsible for any legal action arising thereof.
- Entries will be judged by its merit as decided by our jury.
- Name and Designation of the contributor can be added to the text of the article.
- Receipt of an entry will be acknowledged by e-mail after the receipt.
- The worldwide copyright of each article submitted will remain with the author, but Pashudhan Praharee shall have the unrestricted right to publish the article with photographs to website, or to use it.
- The right to cancel the competition in case of less than 50 entries in each category received will be with us.
