Dr. Varsha Jain, Roopa Jaiswal (BVSc 1st year)

Choice of Veterinary profession for lady is challenging and grateful job. Here I am trying to elaborate the all challenges occur in the veterinary and pleasure come when the patient cured from pain or painful condition. Veterinarian care plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals. From routine check up to emergency treatments, veterinarians are dedicated to providing the best care possible for our furry friends. Here are some challenges:

Emotional toll: Dealing with sick or injured animals can be emotionally challenging for veterinarians. They form connection with their patients and their families, sometimes they have to make difficult decisions regarding treatment options or end-of-life care.

Long hour: Veterinary work often involves long and unpredictable hours. Emergencies can happen at any time, and veterinarians may need to be available during evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide care to animals in need.

Physical demand: Veterinary work can be physically demanding. Handling large animals, performing surgeries and staying on your feet for extended periods can take a toll on the body.

Financial constraints: Providing veterinary care can be expensive, not all owners are afford necessary treatments. Veterinarian may be face challenges in finding a balance between providing the best care possible and working within the financial limitation of their clients.

Ethical dilemmas: Veterinarians often face ethical dilemmas, such as deciding on the best course of action when there are limited treatment options or when the welfare of the animal conflicts with the wishes of the owner.

Compassion fatigue: constantly caring for animals in need can lead to compassion fatigue, a state of emotional exhaustion and decreased empathy. It’s important for veterinarian to practice self-care and find ways to recharge and maintain their emotional well-being.

In addition to preventive care, veterinarians are equipped to handle emergencies and provide critical care. Accidents and injury can happen to animals just like they can to humans. Veterinary professionals are trained to handle these situation, providing immediate medical attention and necessary treatments to save lives and alleviate suffering. Whenever any accident case is there and the animals get injured on the way and its owner and animal are not able to go to hospital then doctor has to go to that place for treatment, whatever the condition.

Field veterinarian struggle: The veterinarian doctor has to go from house to house for vaccination, no owner brings the animal to hospital. In village area there are lack of clinic and medical store for Animals. Doctors not stay at the small village and animal needs emergency attention are died due to unattended by veterinarian. Many doctors used their vehicle as an Ambulance and keep emergency drug for animal. Veterinarian worked in the village with lots of challenges like, no proper building for treatment or surgery, non-availability of electricity and water in hospital, non-availability of skilled staff as well as lack of medicine and surgical equipment. Another challenges come in field is to treat the animal where he/she stayed owner denied to bring or animal itself not able to come up to hospital. So she has to visited owner homes for treatment, Vaccination as well as for artificial insemination. They deals with all this challenges in every season and give best to relief the animal from pain.

Once there was a field veterinarian named Dr. Varsha Jain. She often encountered animals in unexpected situations while on her rounds. One day, she received a call from farm to check on a pregnant cow. It turned out that the cow was having a difficult labor and needed assistance. She assessed the situation and decide to perform a cesarean section to safely deliver the calf. It was quite an intense procedure, but thankfully, both the cow and calf made it through successfully.

In addition to these cases, Dr. Varsha Jain also encountered animals on the road who had been involved in accidents.
