Shocking !!! Despite completing vaccination course, Kolhapur woman dies of rabies

Three days after finishing the anti-rabies vaccination course and more than a month after being bitten by a stray dog, a 21-year-old patient of CPR Hospital passed away from rabies late on Monday night. On February 3, the dog had bitten about twenty people, including her included, between KMC Chowk and Bhausingji Road.

The victim had received all five doses of the rabies vaccine (ARV) and an anti-rabies serum injection for passive immunity from the state-run hospital, according to a senior official of CPR Hospital.

The victim’s parents and sister used to reside with her. Her father works as an electrical contractor. She was employed as a graphic designer and held a bachelor’s degree in commerce.

She was traveling to Shaniwar Peth on February 3. The dog abruptly bit her left leg as she pulled over to answer a call while she was on the road. She was taken right away to the CPR hospital by some locals, where she got stitches for her wounds. The anti-rabies vaccination was given in accordance with medical procedure. Last Friday was her last ARV dose.

The victim experienced a fever and decreased strength in both of her legs on Saturday. She was given a private hospital admission. Several tests were performed as her condition deteriorated, and she was placed on a ventilator. Her test results indicated that she had a history of rabies. Shinde passed away at 2 a.m. despite being brought to the CPR hospital at 8 p.m. for additional care.

The victim’s family members also received anti-rabies vaccination shots as a precaution. According to a medical professional, saliva or blood can transmit the risk of rabies to other people. In order to stop the spread of rabies, these patients are kept in separate rooms. A global study indicates that 99.09% of rabies patients do not recover. Those who own dogs should vaccinate both themselves and their animals. Individuals who were bitten by a stray dog on February 3 ought to speak with their physicians and schedule checkups as soon as feasible.
