The Importance of Crossbred Cattle for National Milk Production

“18th Annual Review Meet” organized by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Cattle Research was concluded with an eventful note at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut which was held from 18th to 19th November 2019.
The Chief Guest, Dr. R.S. Gandhi, ADG (Animal Production & Breeding) complemented the Military Farms and ICAR-CIRC for evolving the Frieswal Crossbred Cattle. He also emphasized on the increase of Crossbred Cattle’s population as per the 20th Livestock Census. This shows the importance of Crossbred Cattle on national milk production.
Dr. Gandhi stressed on the increasing of cattle’s production longevity through improving reproductive and health management. He emphasized on the genomic selection as the need of the hour. He urged that the researchers should be ready for implementing the genomic selection program in addition to the traditional progeny testing.
Col. D.S. Rathore, Officer Incharge, Military Dairy Farm, Meerut highlighted the State Governments’ interest for taking the Frieswal Animals of Military Farms which helped in increasing the flow of better germplasm among the farmers of different parts of the country. Thereby, contributing to the milk production of the country.
Dr. N.V. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRC and Co-ordinator, AICRP on Cattle, Meerut stressed on the necessity to cover more field units and increase the Project’s visibility among the farmers.
The Scientists of ICAR-CIRC and Principal Investigators from different Centres of AICRP on Cattle attended the meeting.
Dr. Umesh Singh, In-charge, ICAR-AICRP thanked all the attendees and guests for participating in the Cattle program.
