In this article i have written about the benefits of mustard oil cake in veterinary and Entrepreneurship sector.Muster oil cake is the residue obtain after extraction of oil from mustard.
Introduction
Mustard plants, known for their diverse properties, produce seeds that serve as a popular seasoning in cooking. These seeds, abundant in oil and protein, are extensively cultivated in North India.
India, ranking third globally in mustard cake production at 5.7 million tonnes annually.In recent times, India has initiated small-scale exports of mustard cake to nations such as Japan, Italy, Thailand, and a few Middle Eastern countries.
Mustard cake composition differs based on the variety, growing environment, and processing techniques. Its protein content, abundant in lysine and sulfur-containing amino acids, addresses limitations found in cereal protein, thus serving as an excellent complement to cereals to enhance the biological value of protein.
Assam’s mustard production has achieved notable success nationally, as per the latest report from the Directorate of Rapeseed and Mustard Research in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. In the 2020-21 period, Assam secured the eighth position in the country with a production of 1,85,275 metric tonnes of mustard.
The current mustard oil production in Assam only covers 20% of the state’s edible oil demand, with the remainder being sourced from external suppliers. In response, the state government has initiated a substantial four-year program to expand mustard cultivation areas, aiming to bridge the shortfall in edible oil production within the state.
Extraction process of mustard oil cake –
- High-grade mustard seeds undergo crushing using advanced machinery to extract mustard oil.
- The extraction process involves cold pressing the mustard seeds without the use of any chemicals, resulting in the production of mustard oil cake as a by-product.
- This extraction process typically yields around 35-40% of oil, while the remaining portion is retained in the oil cake.
- Mustard oil cake constitutes approximately 60-65% of the mustard seed’s composition.
- The presence of an intermediary price benchmark supports the entire mustard oil cake supply chain, benefiting farmers, manufacturers, traders, exporters, and the feed industry, which represents a significant demand driver.
