Forty two veterinarians from nine milk unions and four milk producer companies across India are being trained on Ethnoveterinary practices by Transdisciplinary University (TDU) and Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Bangalore and Thanjavur respectively. The training programme is for 6 days (3 days in Bangalore and 3 days in Thanjavur) from August 5-10, 2019. The participating milk unions are : Baramati (Maharashtra), Dakshina Kannada & Tumkur (Karnataka),Ernakulam & Malabar (Kerala), Mohali ,Jalandhar & Ludhiana (Punjab) and WAMUL (Assam). The participating producer companies are: Maahi (Gujarat), Saahaj (UP), Shreeja (AP) and Baani (Punjab).This programme is being carried out under the aegis of the Mastitis Control Popularization Project (MCPP) being implemented by the Animal Health Group of NDDB with the aim to reduce the use of antibiotics by promoting alternate approaches which provides a simple, cost-effective and efficacious option to the farmers to manage common ailments including mastitis. This will also help to stall the emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
